I love books because...

 I love books.
The characters, the conquering of monsters and terrors,
the magnificent worlds that I can travel....

But most of all,
I love books because they showed me that I was not alone.

Out there,
somewhere in this world,
are others,
that feel and dream and hope and pray for the same things I do.

Out there....

I hope to share in that message to those that come after me.

You are not alone.
Your heart and mind are shared by others.

Don't give up until you find them.

My Sweet Friend

About one week ago, I lost my sweet friend, Whiskey. She was hit by a car.

My time with her was so short. She was so ill when I found her starving along side of the road. I don't know how long she'd been out there. But I know that from the moment she walked into my home and life, she was mine.

I am not a dog person.

But this dog looked into my eyes and I knew what she was saying. It was like our hearts just understood one another. She never wanted to leave my side. Her love was pure and instantaneous.

Time passed and she gained weight. It was clear that she was pregnant. She was still ill, but the vets at Jackson Prairie worked side by side with me to get to the bottom of it. She gave birth to nine adorable little puppies, and it nearly killed her.

That was the first time I held her in my arms, so sure that she was leaving me.

So my family took up the call and we got locals goat's milk and bottle fed those puppies. It only took 10 minutes to feed a puppy. But that meant if you had two bottle holders you were there for 50 minutes. In the middle of the night or early in the morning, it was only me, an hour and a half, bottle feeding babies.

But my girl was still so sick.

It took a while but she was diagnosed with Megaesophagus, ME. Her esophagus wasn't a straight line to her stomach, but a huge ballooned bag where anything she ingested got lost and came up later, never satisfying her need for sustenance.

So she was obviously malnourished and food obsessive and tried to eat anything.

And she really did.

She ate a bar of soap.

She ate a rock.

She ate about 5 leashes, 2 harnesses, and holes in all her blankets.

We got her the fancy Bailey Chair, a high chair for dogs with this condition. And finally, her food went DOWN.

She filled out, her energy was through the roof.

And her love just grew.

She loved to run. Her ears flapped when she ran, like Dumbo flying. It was hilarious. It was beautiful. Our german shepherd was madly in love with her. They wrestled and play tug of war and would fetch for an hour at a time.

But this pic.

This is where she wanted to be.

She was such a sweet girl. A good friend.

I'm glad she wasn't sick. I'm glad it was quick.

But God, I wish I had had more time with her. I hope she knows how much she meant to me.

She will be missed.
